High-quality, productive genetics.

Dandaleith Angus has been breeding quality angus genetics since 1950. Our genetics have a history of performing in tough hill country. Our breeding philosophy is to breed animals that thrive in these conditions, and critically, to perform physically and financially for you.

We do this by:

  • Focusing on producing robust structurally sound genetics that are phenotypically strong to perform on hill country.

  • We concentrate on strong genetics that will grow well to ensure good weaning weights and quick finishing - as no matter which way you look at it, farmers are paid by the KG.

  • Cows challenged on hill country and farmed in a traditional sheep & beef system to ensure they are sound and perform for our clients.

  •  Targeting a moderate mature size Angus Cattle.

  • Good temperament cattle that are a pleasure to manage.

  • We have been bringing in carcass attributes into our sire selection for some time now to help our customers achieve available premiums and help ensure the end product is great eating.

The Dandaleith Difference

We stand by our bulls and guarantee them for structure and fertility for 3 years. In preparing our bulls for sale we carry out the following for your piece of mind;

  • Extensive measurement of their EBV’s.

  • All bulls DNA tested and EBV’s genomically enhanced.

  •  7 in 1 vaccinated (clostridial & leptospirosis cover).

  •  BVD tested and vaccinated.

  • Semen and service tested.

Whether you are buying Sires, Dams or Dorset downs from us, you can be assured that the same level of care has been given to deliver high quality and highly productive genetics.

At calving time we break-feed cows, as they calve, we tag and weigh the calf and assess cow udder, temperament , structure, mothering ability and calving ease. Our average calving date is mid September, with Bulls put out around the 27th of November and weaning at the end of March (season dependent).

Dandaleith Sires

We use the best genetics we can source domestically and internationally that fit our breeding program and that integrate into our AI program - which we use to inseminate over half of our cow herd. Our AI program is backed up by our quality Sire team. We are frequently adding to our Sire team to breed the latest genetic improvement for our customers.

Dandaleith Dams

The productivity and efficiency of the Dandaleith cow is a big focus for us, to ensure that our clients beef operations are profitable, repeatable and easy to manage.

A Dandaleith cow has to get in calf as a yearling, rear a quality calf as a 2 year old, and get back in calf quickly to remain in the herd.

Aside from calving time, the Dandaleith cow is grooming pastures for our 4,000 strong commercial Romney flock. They are challenged on hill country and farmed in a traditional sheep & beef system to ensure they are sound and perform for our clients.
